Friday 4/2
Slept in a bit and met one of Kate’s grad school friends at dolona’s for breakfast. She was from Salt Lake and just happened to also be in town on spring break en route to the airport on her way home. Kate hadn’t seen her in ~2 years so it was a big deal for her.
Late morning, we meandered around the main square, window shopping and ambling streets we’d yet to see in the older part of town.
We headed out to La Tierra park around noon for a trail run. Gentler slopes than Dale Balls but still quite hilly and technical at times. Kate had initially wanted a long run, which I was less than enthused about after yesterday’s workout, but we ended up reducing the run after not feeling all that good towards the 7-8 mile mark.
Made it back to town for some ice cream at kakawa’s which is a well know chocolate shop. Chris had suggested the mint chip which was great.
Back to the room for some downtime and grading until an early dinner at Maria’s for one last night of Mexican cuisine.
In perhaps a grand finale, we headed to meow wolf, which is an odd, modern, interactive art exhibit on the south side of town. Friday night tickets weren’t ideal, but were the only available when I checked. They wouldn’t less us in early, so we ended up with 30 minutes to kill in an industrial area on the strip. We googled breweries and found a place only a few blocks and ended up actually being a “Jun” brewery, which is similar to Kombucha, but higher in alcohol. Actually a great, light drink to try.
Meow Wolf is hard to describe. It’s a bit like a children’s museum for adults that’s also a modern art museum and has some hard to follow story that we attempted to interact with and quickly gave up and simply enjoyed the flashing lights and creative room themes on a basic level. Definitely worth a trip just for that. Incredibly unique in scope and presentation. It was a good cap to a great stay in Santa Fe.
